Building Process of the New Library

The AUS Library opened the doors to its new location in January 2006 after a 20 month long construction project. The following pictures highlight this building process from ground breaking to opening day.

Before & Ground Breaking  
before Dec 2003
The library's location behind the AUS main building prior to construction. Ground broke on this project in mid
December, 2003.
   
Construction  
April 2004 Sept 2004
April, 2004: Working on foundation and underground levels. September, 2004: With the ground floor in
place, work begins on the first floor.
   
Dec 2004 Dec 2004 inside
December, 2004: The second, and final floor has been added. December, 2004: A look at the
progress on the inside of the building.

July, 2005: The exterior detail work nears completion. December 2005. Ground floor interior is in
the last phases before completion.

Opening Day  
Ribbon cutting

While the library had been open to students since January, the official Grand Opening took place
May 31, 2006.

In this photo His Highness Dr. Sheikh Sultan Bin Mohammed Al Qassimi, Member of Supreme
Council and Ruler of Sharjah, officially opens the library in a ribbon cutting ceremony. Accompanying His Highness are then University Librarian, Lorin Ritchie, and AUS Chancellor, Dr. Winfred L. Thompson.
