Reference Desk Closed from Dec. 19 to Jan. 28
December 19, 2006
The reference desk will not be staffed over the exam period and intersession. Users are asked to direct their questions to the staff at the ground floor circulation desk (x2256). Staffing of the reference desk will resume on Jan. 28, 2007.

Access to Patron Records Now Available via Library Catalog
December 12, 2006
Patrons can once again access their records online. If you continue to experience difficulty please contact the Library Circulation Desk (06-515-2256) for assistance.

Extended AUS Library Hours for December
December 10, 2006
The AUS Library has extended it's hours for the end of semester period in December. The library will close for Eid holidays and have reduced hours starting Jan. 7 for the January intersession. Details can be found on the Hours page.

New Quiet Individual Study Area on 1st Floor
November 22, 2006
The old "Phone Zone" on the 1st floor has been re-designated as a "Quiet Individual Study Area." Like the 2nd floor Periodical area students can now go there if they want to study quietly on their own. Groups are kindly asked to use the "Quiet Group Study Area" in the open area on the 2nd floor, close to the main roundabout.

New Locate Book Feature in Library Catalog

Users can now find the exact location of books in the library using the Locate function in the library’s catalog. “Locate Title” can be found at the bottom of the blue box on the right hand side of library record page under “More Information:”. Click on the link and you are taken to a map of the library and directions to the exact stack where the book can be found

Library Newsletter Now Available

The AUS Library's newsletter, Library News, is now available online and in print.

Library Email Service Restored

Technical problems with library email notices have been resolved and service restored. Library users will once again receive notices via email for overdue items.

Independent Newspaper (UK) has arrived

The AUS Library has started receiving The Independent newspaper, a high-quality daily UK newspaper (excluding Sundays) featuring Robert Fisk as a regular contributor. Fisk writes regularly on Middle East issues and is highly regarded. The Independent can be found in the Periodicals area on the library’s second floor.

Library hires 30 student assistants

To continue offering the best possible library service we've hired 30 new student library assistants this year. This select group of students will be working at the circulation and information commons desks as well as helping with book shelving.

Library web content continues to grow

Library and Faculty Center collaborate to offer Ebrary Workshops

Vanessa Middleton and Imed Nsiri teamed up recently to offer two workshops for faculty demonstrating the benefits of using e-books.  The library subscribes to hundreds of e-books through Ebrary and Safari Tech Books. To find them, go to the Library Catalog.  

Eid Holiday Closure Announced
October 17, 2006
The Library will be closed for the Eid Holiday from Friday, October 20th to Friday, October 27th. Regular library hours will resume on Saturday, October 28th at 11:00am.

My Library Record login changes
October 17, 2006
Starting today users are now able to use their AUS email usernames and password to login to patron records to renew materials, place holds, suggest material, etc. Alumni and family patrons who do not have active AUS email accounts are requested to phone the Library Circulation Desk 06-5152256 to have library staff renew material and place holds.

Library Catalog downtime

Circulation Notices sent to @aus.edu email addresses

The AUS Library will soon be using the university standard of AUS email username and password to access Library patron records. In preparation of this move, all currently registered students, staff and faculty have had their patron records updated with their AUS email addresses. As a result, courtesy or overdue notices from the library will now be delivered to AUS addresses. Please note that Alumni or other external users will still receive notices to personal email addresses.

ACM Digital Library expanded subscription
August 23, 2006
The AUS Library has recently upgraded our subscription to the ACM Digital Library. In addition to the ACM Digital Library Core Package, users are now able to access material from the Digital Library Master Special Interest Group (SIG) Package which comprises of all ACM SIG newsletters in print and online. All conference proceedings are also available in full text. For a full listing of new publications received please consult the Digital Library Master Special Interest Group (SIG) Package home page.

Classroom 2 gets new computers
July 26, 2006
In keeping with our mandate of offering the best possible computing environment for our users. The library has recently upgraded Classroom 2 with 24 Dell GX620 Ultra-Small Form Factor pc's. This Dell model features Intel's new Core Duo processor and a wide array of other high performance computing features. This model is also the first at AUS to incorporate both the PC and 17" monitor in one all purpose stand, thereby saving desk space for students and providing convenient access to USB ports and DVD drives.

Library Launches New Website
July 25, 2006
The AUS Library is proud to announce the launch of our new website. The new website offers improved navigation and better access to library services to create a better user experience. Many people, including students, AUS staff and library staff, were involved in delivering the final product. We welcome comments and suggestions on the website.
