Extended Library Hours for Exam Period

The Library will begin its extended evening and weekend schedule on Saturday, Dec. 15 and provide limited hours during the last three days of the Eid Al Adha holiday break in preparation for final exams.

Reduced Hours for National Day Weekend

The library will be closed from Friday, November 30th to Sunday, December 2nd. The library will reopen on Monday, December 3rd from 11am to midnight. For more detail please see the library hours. The Research Help Desk will be closed on Sunday and Monday, December 2-3, reopening again on Tuesday, December 4th.

Web Of Science Seminar Nov. 13th

A Web of Science seminar entitled "How Web of Science Can Enhance Research Performance" will be hosted by the Faculty Development Center on Nov 13 from 3pm-4pm. This tool is useful for those preparing their faculty portfolios, so come learn more about Web of Social Science Citation Index (SSCI) and Science Citation Index (SCI)!

New Library Website As Of August 26

The new AUS Library homepage will go live as of August 26, 2007. Changes to the homepage include the introduction of Quick Search tools to help users search databases, and the Library catalog directly. The site itself still contains all the same information.

Learn Computing At The Library Aug. 27-29

Information Commons will be hosting a series of short classes on using library computing resources. "Getting Started" runs from August 27-29th at 10-10:30 and 15-15:30. Come learn how to use the computers in the library!

Database Connectivity Problems Resolved

Database connectivity problems experienced earlier in the week have now been resolved. If you experience any problems connecting to the databases using the links on the usual database pages, and you are on campus the links on the Emergency Database Links are still available. We apologize for any inconvenience this may cause.

In the Library: Books by Dr. Saliba

Since Dr. Saliba's lively lecture to AUS students and faculty on May 14, (see article) the library has been inundated with requests for his new book, Islamic Science and the Making of the European Renaissance (MIT Press, 2007), which is on its way to the library. In the meantime, browse other books by Dr. Saliba currently in the library. Titles include The Arts of Fire, Beyond the Legacy of Genghis Khan, Magic and Divination in Early Islam and more.

Reference Desk Closed from May 18 to June 13

The reference desk will not be staffed over the exam period and intersession. Users are asked to direct their questions to the staff at the ground floor circulation desk (x2256). Staffing of the reference desk will resume on June 13, 2007.

New: Keesing's World News Archive now available online

The AUS Library now has a subscription to Keesing's World News Archive. This database provides a concise, accurate and unbiased account of important developments in each of the world’s countries, major international organizations and within selected thematic topics dating back to 1931.

New: Encyclopaedia Britannica now available online

The AUS Library now has a subscription to Encyclopaedia Britannica Academic Edition. This is an online version of Encyclopædia Britannica, Merriam-Webster's Collegiate Dictionary, Merriam-Webster's Collegiate Thesaurus, and Merriam-Webster's Dictionary of Quotations. Also included are the World Atlas, and World Data Analyst Online, a program with current and historical statistics on 217 countries of the world which makes historical and cross-national comparisons easy.

Introducing No-Talking Zones in the Library

There are now 3 No-Talking Zones in the library located in the Arabic Collection area, and just outside of the men's prayer room on the first floor, as well as the Periodicals area on the second floor.  No talking, no whispering, no mobiles, no exceptions.  If you want to talk please use other areas of the library. These areas were created because students requested quiet study spaces.  We’d love to hear your feedback – please email Daphne Flanagan at dflanagan@aus.edu.   

New: AccessScience and Digital Engineering Library Databases Available

AccessScience – This online encyclopedia gives access to all the articles, fully illustrated, from the latest edition of the McGraw-Hill Encyclopedia of Science & Technology, Research Updates from the McGraw-Hill Yearbooks, thousands of illustrations, and the latest Science News® headlines, biographies, and more.
Digital Engineering Library – Featuring content from world renowned McGraw-Hill publications, including classics such as Marks’ Standard Handbook for Mechanical Engineers (10th ed.), Perry’s Chemical Engineers Handbook (7th ed.), Standard Handbook for Electrical Engineers (14th ed.), Roark’s Formulas for Stress and Strain (7th ed.), and many more, this database offers the widest and deepest repository of engineering content available online.

EIU databases coverage has expanded and now includes Bahrain, Egypt, India, Iran, Iraq, Jordan, Kuwait, Lebanon, Oman, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, Syria, Turkey, United Arab Emirates and Yemen. EIU Country Report provides in-depth analysis of political and economic trends, and EIU Country Profile
provides background and historical context of current economic and political events.
