Each semester the library recognizes graduating student assistants who have worked with us for 4 or more semesters in providing support to you our users. Our student assistants are very important to us. With their assistance, Help Desk and Information Commons support from opening to closing – seven days a week is possible. As is our tradition, graduating students each select a book that now contains their name inscribed on a book-plate. Though only a small token, book-plates are a lasting reminder of the contribution each student has made to the AUS Library.
This semester we have one graduating student assistant – Lana Afaneh. Lana has worked tirelessly in the library for 5 semesters. We asked Lana to reflect upon her experience and to consider the single most important thing she has learned.
As she commented:
“I would say working as a student assistant in the library benefited me in more ways than one. I gained and improved my technical and customer service skills and learned how to balance studies, working, and my social life. In fact, finding that balance helped me do well academically without overworking or stressing myself out.”
We thank Lana for her service and wish her every success in her future career.
