As liable members of the American University of Sharjah, faculty, staff and students are obligated to abide by the provisions of the copyright law as far as possible. Make sure that you are in compliance with copyright law as it pertains to fair use.
AUS started the Copyright & Permissions Service in Fall 2009. Our goal is to educate faculty, students and staff in U.S. and UAE copyright law in order to legally use copyrighted materials in the classroom and learn how to avoid copyright violations. The library can help you obtain permission from the copyright holder for uses not covered by Fair Use. Permission can be obtained either by contacting the copyright holder directly or through a licensing agent such as Copyright Clearance Center.
This webpage will help address some questions you may have about Copyright, Permissions and Copying Guidelines. Although this information is not meant to be legal advice, the AUS Copyright & Permissions Service is here to assist faculty, students and staff with copyright issues and questions related to copyrighted materials use.
