Library hosts ALA speakers and participates in the Sharjah International Library Conference
As a welcome to the 11th annual Sharjah International Library Conference, AUS librarians hosted speakers from the American Library Association (ALA). Our guests met with the library team and toured the library.
Several members of the library team participated in the 2 day conference held at the Sharjah Expo in conjunction with the Sharjah International Book Fair. Conference attendees were front row to an international roster of expert presenters from ALA.
University Librarian, Kara Jones presented, Academic Libraries and Community, Culture, and Collaboration, highlighting her initiative with the Barjeel Art Foundation. Over 50 pieces of artwork, featuring Arab artists, are currently on display enriching the cultural atmosphere throughout the AUS Library.
Cataloging and Metadata Librarian, Veronique Lecat presented, The Value of Creative Commons Licenses and Certification which highlighted 15 things learned through attaining the CC certification.
Rebecca Hastie, Information Literacy Librarian, presented her poster on Incorporating AI: Intro ‘One-Shot’ Library Instruction, demonstrating innovative ways to integrate AI into instructional sessions.
Syeda Naqvi, Library Assistant and Master of Library and Information Science candidate, presented her poster, Beyond the Algorithm: Ensuring Accuracy in AI Information Retrieval, addressing the importance of accuracy in AI-driven library services.
Christine Furno, Engagement and Outreach Librarian, presented her poster Library Outreach and the Launch of the AUS Library Ed Talks: Showcasing Faculty Research and Engaging the Campus Collective, illustrating an initiative designed to showcase published faculty research and foster campus-wide engagement.
Our contributions and networking with the greater library world highlighted the evolving role of libraries in academic and community settings, demonstrating our commitment to AI in the library, cultural engagement, and educational collaboration.
