Cancellation of Web of Science Database

Cancellation of Web of Science Database: effective December 31, 2021

From December 31st 2021, AUS will no longer provide access to the database Web of Science (including Journal Citation Reports). In its place, the library will continue to subscribe to Scopus, a similar database in terms of content and functionality.  

The American University of Sharjah Library works to offset increasing costs of information resources. Our strategy is to minimize the impact of inflation by continuously monitoring the use of the collection to identify and eliminate journals and databases that have low usage and high price increases. 

The decision to cancel Web of Science is based on analysis of increasing cost, a precipitous decline in usage and a very high percentage of duplicated content found elsewhere in our subscribed databases. 

Please be assured that the availability of the full text of articles and journals indexed through Web of Science is unaffected by this decision and that alternatives will offer comparable search and discovery capabilities for those resources. Journal Citation Report metrics can readily be found elsewhere.

The library will continue to provide instruction in the use of Scopus and support for those transitioning from Web of Science.
