University Librarian, Kara Jones presenting AUS Student Ahmed Darwish with his name-plated book. Each semester the library recognizes graduating student assistants who have worked with us for 4 or more semesters in providing support to you our users.  This semester, we are very pleased to honor graduating Civil Engineering student Ahmed Maher Darwish for his longstanding service of 7 semesters.

During his time with us, Ahmed has assisted at the Library Service Desk, helping library patrons trouble shoot technical issues, collecting materials from the book-drops, checking in and out library materials, completing library rounds, and working on a range of special projects for the library team.

As Ahmed commented, work has helped him increase his communication skills and time management skills – learning how to balance both work and student life.  To those considering applying for a library student assistant position Ahmed’s advice is “Go for it!  It’s an amazing experience that you shouldn’t miss out on.”

As is our tradition, graduating students each select a book that now contains their name inscribed on a book-plate.  Though only a small token, book-plates are a lasting reminder of the contribution each student has made to the AUS Library.

Ahmed has selected Shantaram a story “about life and living for a man that refuses to accept a condemned fate and how he carves a space out for himself.”

The AUS Library would like to thank Ahmed for his outstanding service as a student assistant.  We wish him every success in his future career!
